The 12 Bands of Christmas® is a local, charity event that
exposes some of
the CSRA's finest talent while helping sick children, and their
families, at
the same time. Twelve local artists are chosen to record Christmas songs
for
a CD compilation and perform live in concert at the Imperial Theatre
in
December.
In the fall of 2003, Joe Stevenson (95 Rock's The Radar, Glue Stick
Music
Promotions, People Who Must) and Ruskin Yeargain (Impulse Ride, producer
approached Coco Rubio (organizer of the 12 Bands of Christmas® concerts,
Soul
Bar) about tying a Christmas CD in with the annual concert. The idea
was met
with full enthusiasm and work on the project hit full speed. Through
the
help from donations, sponsors, participating retail vendors and the artists
who participated, $10,000 was raised for Medical College of Georgia's
Children's Medical Center.
In April of 2004, this community tragically lost
Tamara Dunstan, a very special person and pediatric oncology nurse at
MCG's Children's
Medical
Center. Tamara was a bright light for the children and staff on the 5th
floor at the CMC. She loved her work but, more importantly, loved many
of
the children in her care who richly blessed her life as she did theirs.
As a
result, her family created the Tamara Cundey Memorial Fund in her honor.
The sole purpose of
Tamara's Fund is to better the lives of the patients and families
of MCG's
Children's Medical Center, in particular those children on 5C, the
cancer/hemoc floor. Since it's inception, Tamara's Fund has reached over
$250,000. Of that amount, nearly $100,000 has been contributed by The
12
Bands of Christmas®.
Tamara's Fund...
- Hosts Christmas Parties with crafts and presents for all the children
in the hospital.
- Provides dinners to the patients and families at the CMC, serving over
600 meals to date.
- Provides "birthday goody bags" to the campers at Camp Rainbow.
- Provides volunteers and funding for "Carnival Night" at Camp
Rainbow.
- Provides Halloween costumes to the patients for their Halloween parties.
- Provided 2006 Thanksgiving lunch to the entire hospital including
all patients, patients families, doctors and nurses.
With your support, The 12 Bands of Christmas®, through Tamara's
Fund, will
continue to enrich the lives of these sick children and their families
through programs like these and more. Please help us keep the vision
that
"Christmas should be everyday" for the children at the CMC.
